Abstract

This study aims to examine women’s participation in agriculture and livestock activities and explore their challenges in Taluka Hyderabad Rural, Sindh, Pakistan, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals. Data were collected using a purposive sampling technique through a questionnaire administered to 100 respondents. The findings reveal that the majority of the respondents lacked formal education, with 67 out of 100 women being unskilled. Most women were primarily engaged in cutting fodder and spent over nine hours daily on livestock-related tasks due to insufficient technical knowledge. The study identified several critical issues, including the lack of basic facilities such as gas, sewerage, health services, food, and clothing, as well as the absence of credit facilities and training opportunities. The involvement of women in collecting fodder was largely attributed to their low-income levels. To address these challenges, it is recommended that the government and NGOs support these women by providing cheaper fodder and other essential inputs. The provision of technical knowledge and training can significantly reduce the long working hours currently required. Formal education is essential to enhance women’s participation and efficiency in livestock activities. Therefore, training programs and workshops should be organized to improve their skills. Additionally, providing credit at low interest rates would encourage greater participation of women in livestock management in this area. Implementing these measures aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by promoting gender equality, reducing poverty, and improving the well-being of rural women, thereby empowering them to contribute more effectively to their communities and the broader economy. This study underscores the need for targeted interventions to enhance the capabilities and livelihoods of rural women in agriculture and livestock, fostering sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
